Channa Biryani

 Ingredients

Channa 250gms

Rice 500gms

Onion 1 big

Cinnamon 1 stick

Big Cardamn 1

green cardamon 4-5

cloves 1 tsp

black pepper 1 tsp

Bay leaf 1-2

Ginger garlic paste 3 tbsp

Tomatoes 1 and 1/2 in cubes

Dry mint leaves 1 tbsp

star anise 2

Green chillies 3-4

cumin seeds 1 tbsp

salt as per taste

Red pepper ground 1 tbsp

for garnishing

Fresh coriander

green chillies

egg yellow food colour

Tomatoes cut into slices

Method

  • First, fry onions in oil until golden brown.
  • Add cinnamon, big cardamon, green cardamon, cloves, black pepper and bay leaf and saute for 1 min.
  • Add ginger/garlic paste and tomatoes and saute until tomatoes are softened.
  • Then, add star anise, green chillies, cumin, salt and red pepper and again saute for 2 mins.
  • Now add channa, rice and 4 cups of water. cook on medium flame until the water starts to dry.
  • Now add garnishing of coriander, green chillies and tomatoes.
  • Finally, sprinkle the food colour and on low flame steam it for 30 mins.
  • Serve hot with salad and raita.
